Richard Whiteley works with light and form, casting glass sculptures, that use the translucence and color of glass to articulate and order voids, which he surrounds by solid mass. Both architectural and anthropomorphic in form, the interiors of his pieces capture, encapsulate and hold space, balancing the material and immaterial.

Whiteley is the Senior Programs Manager for The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass and part of the team leading The Studio’s major program and facility expansion. He came to Corning in 2019 after heading the prestigious Glass Workshop at the School of Art, Australian National University in Canberra for over 15 years.

Whiteley received a Bachelor of Visual Arts from the School of Art, Australian National University, Canberra before earning a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Illinois, Urbana. His work is represented in numerous public collections and museums internationally, including China Academy of Art, Hangzhou; Chrysler Museum of Art, Norfolk, VA; Corning Museum of Glass, Corning, NY; Lowe Art Museum, Miami, FL; National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; National Museum of Scotland, Edinburgh; Portland Art Museum, Portland, OR; and Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, OH.
